Pentecost is remembering and celebrating the Holy Spirit being given to followers of Christ and the Church being founded. Red is the liturgical color for Pentecost weekend. Red recalls the tongues of flame in which the Holy Spirit descended on the first Pentecost. A tradition of some churches in ancient times was to baptize adult converts to the faith on Pentecost. The newly baptized would wear white robes on that day, so Pentecost was often called “Whitsunday” or “White Sunday” after these white baptismal garments. One of the foundational elements of all of the New Testament letters, is the reality of the new identity that we have when we have turned to and follow Jesus: through faith in Christ we become a child of the God of creation. That reality is to mold, guide and transform us in the way we live in every area of our lives. In the second part of John’s first epistle, he provides us with understanding and guidance about how we live out that new identity in our personal lives and in our life together as a church family. For it is that new identity in Christ that provides the basis for how we change, provides the ‘seeds of transformation.’ So how do we keep from being deceived? How do we change? That will be the focus of this teaching series. As we move together through the season of Lent, we will be looking at some of the Gospel stories of miraculous healings by Jesus. Most of these healings had unexpected elements to them, beyond the physical healing itself. They help us understand what Jesus truly offers us and what He calls us to as we serve Him. And a central, over-arching element of these healing-miracle stories, is Jesus concern for the least, the hurting, the broken and the lost. Which is a concern that Jesus wants us, His followers, to share and act upon.Digging Deeper Questions ►https://southviewchurch.com/digging-deeper/Check out our Weekly Viewpoint ► https://southviewchurch.com/viewpointFind Us on Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/saccalgary/Find Us on Facebook ►https://www.facebook.com/southviewchurch
