Romans chapter 12 is a turning point in the book of Romans. In the previous chapters the main emphasis in Paul’s letter has been why we need a Savior and how we can receive new life in Him. With Romans 12, though, Paul begins to deal with how a follower of Christ is to live out the new life they’ve received in Christ.

Over the summer we’ve looked at a number of Psalms that have highlighted everything from our identity in God’s presence to how the psalmist relates to human suffering in a variety of ways. The promise of a harvest, of God's fruitfulness made manifest is a familiar theme in the Psalms but it also finds expression in the Gospels. In this message, the question of “who gets sent out into the harvest?” finds an answer in a Samaritan woman Jesus meets at a well.

How do we find the words for our prayers that state exactly how we feel, especially when we are disoriented by suffering and difficulty? How do we come up with prayers that express our heart ache too God in a way where we feel heard and accepted? Psalm 22 takes us to that incredibly difficult but also incredibly powerful place where we find the words to express our grief, disappointment and even anger in ways that help us to grow spiritually but also emotionally.
