Rooted | Abide

In the journey of following Christ, we can at times feel "stuck" or "plateaued" in our spiritual growth. Which can lead us to wonder or ask, "How do I grow in Christ?", "How do I find freedom from the pulls in my life that often ensnare me?", "How do I change?". Those are some of the questions that we'll be considering in this teaching series, in which we are seeking guidance from Scripture about how we get more rooted in Christ, experience more growth, and discover more power for this life with Jesus.

The Expected One | Light in our Darkness

The Hebrew prophets all told of the "Expected One" who was to come: the Messiah. As we walk together through the expectancy of this Advent season, we will look at three different Old Testament prophets and the pictures they each sketched of this Coming Deliverer. Three pictures to prepare us for the arrival of Jesus.

Gospel Mission | Giving for the Gospel

While Paul meditates on Christian spirituality that has gone wrong; dependence on the flesh rather than Christ, the pursuit of personal righteousness rather than faith in Christ, rejection of the cross rather than the embrace of the cruciform life. For Paul - Christ was not just a new friend or deity he picked up to give his life added value. His relationship with Christ became an all-consuming passion. From his perspective: I have not reached the finish line, but I have learned not to look back. The mission of the gospel will move forward, but it will need sacrificial partners, who will give resources, to contribute to the wider gospel mission.

Gospel Citizens | Two Models of Humility & Obedience

The first chapter focused on Paul's situation. While Paul addresses the uncertainty of his fate, he admits that he is full of thanksgiving, hope, and joy, because the gospel is spreading unabated, and it has been propelled by his chains. Paul was focused on giving his readers confidence and hope in the unstoppable gospel.
Paul now challenges the Philippians not to shrink back in intimidation and hesitation, but to move forward in hope and joy, working together as one community in the good fight of faith. He calls them to fearless obedience to the gospel, but he first affirms the necessity of humility and unity, in which Christ is our perfect example. He will go on to give further examples of Christlike humility, self-sacrifice, and cooperation and obedience in view of the gospel mission.
